Celebration of Life – Dorothy Hurley

Celebration of Life – Dorothy Hurley
April 20, 2024 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at The Oxford Community Arts Center – Main Ballroom

It is with very sad and heavy hearts, that we share the passing of Dorothy Bell Hurley.  Dorothy passed early on Sunday December 17, 2023. Dorothy had been recently diagnosed with cancer, but in typical Dorothy fashion, she chose to live each day as a gift and to the fullest! When asked if it might be ok for us to initiate a Meal Train for Dorothy, she immediately said she didn’t want “to be a bother”, so I asked, if it were another club member, wouldn’t you want to do all that you could to help, and she resignedly said, “OK, yes I would, go ahead”.  And, I’m so happy to report, that in her final months, this was definitely a highlight for her as so many stayed to visit when dropping off meals, she said it was as though she was having a “Living Memorial”. She laughed, reminisced, received flowers, calls, and everyone’s efforts were so greatly appreciated! Dorothy was beloved, and a newly appointed Life Member of Des Fleurs and has been a member of our club since 1993. We were so blessed to have her attend our Holiday Luncheon on Dec. 7th, where she received the Life Member Award for her many years of service, mentorship and love for the club. She was so very active in every single facet of the club and its service to our community over the years, to say she will be missed is an understatement. We understand that there will be a Celebration of Life ceremony held in the spring, as Dorothy wished, because it is a time of rebirth and renewal with all her favorite things bursting forth.  Dorothy may be gone, but she will live in SO many hearts AND gardens forever. Rest in peace our dear friend, we will see you in every inch of nature and love as we continue to grow, weed, arrange, and create in the ways that you taught us.
